About Me

A little creativity. A little business sense. A lot of real-world experience.

I’m Jennifer Kahn Barlow, an artist, educator, and the person behind The Business Side of Art.

For more than 16 years, I’ve been building my own art career while figuring out everything that comes with it beyond making the work. From writing artist statements and organizing inventory to pricing paintings, building an online presence, connecting with collectors, and navigating the business decisions along the way, I’ve learned that being an artist means wearing a lot of hats.

And before art became my full-time focus, I spent 12 years working in finance for a construction company. That experience gave me a practical foundation in the business side of things—one I now bring to my work with artists.

Over the years, I've also been involved in the arts community through leadership, programming, exhibitions, and teaching. I've seen firsthand how much artists have to learn outside the studio, often through trial and error.

That's why I created The Business Side of Art.

I believe artists deserve practical, approachable guidance to help them build the business behind their creativity. Not complicated business jargon. Not a one-size-fits-all formula. Just useful information, manageable steps, and tools you can put to work in your own art practice.

Whether you're just beginning to take your art business seriously or looking to bring more structure and intention to an established career, my goal is to help you feel more organized, confident, and prepared for what comes next.

Because making the art is what we love. Building a sustainable art business is what helps us keep doing it.

I'm glad you're here.
